Join History Colorado on Wednesday, June 21 at 1 pm for their latest Rosenberry Lecture Series talk, Trinidad and Colorado’s Gender Legacy. Learn more about why The New York Times once indelicately called Trinidad, “the sex-change capital of the world.” Dr. Marci Bowers, a protégée of Dr. Stanley Biber’s and Al Melton, the Director of the Trinidad History Museum will speak to Trinidad’s innovative role in gender confirmation surgery as it moved from incomprehensible to commonplace in the American dialogue.
Dr. Bowers is recognized as a leader in gender affirming surgeon with over 33 years’ experience. In addition to establishing surgical programs across the US, Canada, and Israel, Dr. Bowers is the current WPATH President and serves on the Trevor Project Board of Directors. Al Melton holds a master’s degree in Public History from the University of West Florida and has over a decade of experience in the museum industry. He is currently the Director of the Trinidad History Museum.
