Event Description
An artwork begins its life from the time the artist puts down their brush—or in this case—palette knife. Bailey Placzek, CSM’s associate curator and catalogue raisonné research and project manager, has been engaged in the inventory and documentation of every work in CSM’s art collection since before the Museum’s opening in 2011. On a mission to understand Still’s artistic process and gain a complete picture of the artist’s contributions, Placzek has pieced together objects’ complex histories through provenance research, historic installation photos, archival correspondence, and cryptic inscriptions found on the backs of paintings. Placzek will recount the most compelling backstories of some of the artworks on display in A Decade of Discovery and reveal what mysteries remain….
